Eleanor Longshanks at Waltham Abbey Town Hall

A fascinating theatrical performance takes place on Tuesday 5 December at Waltham Abbey Town Hall.   “Eleanor Longshanks” is the story of Eleanor of Castile whose husband, King Edward I, was so devastated by her death that he built 12 Eleanor Crosses to mark the places where his Queen’s body lay overnight on its way back to London.   One of those places was Waltham Abbey, where the Cross is sited in the town of Waltham Cross, one of only three remaining.   Storytellers Sue Macmillan and Hannah McDowell have put together a programme which they are performing at each of the original Eleanor Cross locations.   The performance starts at 7.30pm, and tickets are available from the Tourist Information Centre.
